The COVID-19 pandemic presents unique challenges for the more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. Social distancing is nearly impossible for people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, who rely on family caregivers and others to live their daily lives. The Alzheimer’s Association continues to be here to help families take the necessary measures to prepare for and cope with such extraordinary circumstances through its 24/7 Helpline (800.272.3900), weekly virtual education programs, weekly virtual support groups, care consultations and website.  alz.org/seva

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased demand for critical services in vulnerable communities. The YWCA is more committed than ever to ensuring that our services are available for those in need during this time. Our 24-hour hotline for victims of violence and emergency housing services continue to operate, but at a much larger cost. Due to the pandemic the YWCA has moved families from our community shelter into individual hotel rooms. This necessary shift in services has stretched the YWCA’s budget with an additional (not in the original budget) $7,000+ in costs per week. Your support and donations during this time will help the YWCA of South Hampton Roads continue to be a source of safety and security to those in need even during this global pandemic. For over 35 years, Samaritan House has provided emergency and permanent housing, support services and community outreach to victims of violence and homeless families in the Hampton Roads region. The COVID-19 crisis has stretched resources and services to the limit. Since the Stay-at-Home order went into effect Samaritan House has seen an 86% increase in demand for services. All 24 shelters run by Samaritan House in Hampton Roads are currently at capacity. In order to continue to serve the community Samaritan House is now asking for the community’s donations to provide hotel rooms for individuals and families so they can be safe and secure. This adds an additional $450 per week per family for 6 weeks. Experiencing Violence? Samaritan House Hotline: 757-430-2120 Homeless or at risk of being homeless?
